Good to know
AVIF files are very small, and some phones and browsers save them by default. Desktop apps, marketplaces, and office software often still want a JPG.
A current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari can decode AVIF. ToolSpruce uses that built-in decoder and never sends the image to a server. If your browser cannot read AVIF, the page says so instead of pretending the file converted.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers can convert AVIF?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari can decode AVIF. If yours cannot, the converter reports that instead of producing a bad file.
Does AVIF transparency survive as JPG?
No. JPG is opaque, so transparent pixels are drawn on white. Convert to PNG when the transparent background matters.
Are AVIF files uploaded to ToolSpruce?
No. Decoding and encoding happen in the page you already loaded.
Can I convert several AVIF files at once?
Yes. Add them together and download a ZIP of JPGs.
